

" Be Heard is a member-led group of learning disabled adults that promotes self-advocacy and peer advocacy to enrich the lives of its members. With an active membership of over fifty, Be Heard changes lives for the better, as well as raising awareness about learning disabilities throughout the local community. Following guidelines of Government White Paper, "Valuing People" (2001), Be Heard operates with the guiding principles of improving the lives of learning disabled people in the following ways: * To be included and recognised in the local community * To know their rights as citizens * To have real chances to be independent * To have choice in their daily lifestyles
To realise these goals, Be Heard works proactively, and participates regularly, in local and national initiatives to improve the lives of learning disabled people. "
