Disability Discrimination
The Learning Disability Web Site is concerned about discrimination, particularly any form of discrimnation. We have heard about adults with learning disabilities who decide to move another area to live being declined health care services from local services because they are considered to be out of city placements and therefore not eligible for services. Do able bodied people who move house from one part of the country to another receive the same discrimination, we don't think so.

Criminal Records Bureau (CRB)
The CRB is here and all care providers should be aware that your staff need to be given police checks. These checks are for cautions and criminal convictions. We understand that some people who have committed serious abuse upon adults with learning disabilities they are finding jobs outside the care sector in order to fool prospective employers into thinking they have no criminal convictions or cautions. From a recent case record an employee of a care provider found this to be the case and that the person they employed had not only a criminal record but were being investigated by social services and the police for further acts of abuse against adults with learning disabilities. So, protect your service users and remember to carry out your enhanced CRB check and ask prospective employees at interview whether or not they have criminal convictions or cautions, and don't forget to ask whether or not they are being investigated by social services or the police? For more information then visit their web site at crb.gov.uk
